Storz strawberry cultures - since 1921

Almost 100 years ago Johann and Berta Storz from Augsburg bought the 8-hectare orchard in Landsberg am Lech. Around 1000 apple trees and 1000 currant bushes were planted in the orchard.

1921 - late 1950

Johann Storz was a master gardener and, in addition to the main crops, ran a small tree nursery and some vegetable growing, but in the 1930s he already had smaller plots of strawberries and raspberries in the range. The harvests were meager at the time, it was simply too cold in the foothills of the Alps in the area for fruit growing. In the 1950s, Wilhelm Storz Sen. began to grow more strawberries, which were more profitable than apples and currants.

Late 1950-present

The remaining crops gradually gave way to the more profitable strawberries. The first marketable variety was available: Senga Sengana. Picking your own food very soon became popular in our region (early 1960s) and over the decades it spread throughout Bavaria and later Germany. Due to the long tradition of self-picking in Bavaria, this form of marketing is still very popular and forms the basis of our business. Since the mid-1990s, we have also been offering picked strawberries for sale at various points in stalls. You can also buy strawberries that you have picked at most self-picking fields while stocks last.
